Frankenstein [Part 1]

This looks familiar. Didn't Kenneth Branagh attempt the definitive version, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein , a few years ago?

Well, the books's out of copyright and since nobody's adapted it this century the US Hallmark Entertainment company have decided to do the newest version. For such a family-orientated channel this is a strange choice for subject matter. Especially since Channel 4 have chosen to broadcast it in mid-afternoon, 4pm, on a weekend.

Viktor Frankenstein [Alec Newman - Long Time Dead ], under some unconvincing middle-age makeup, is on a ship at the North Pole. He recounts to Donald Sutherland [ Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Don't Look Now ] the tale of how he got there.

Frankenstein created a monster - blah, blah, blah. We all know that. This time the monster is played by Luke Goss, who isn't encombered by excessive makeup like DeNiro was. Goss manages to bring the same performance as he did in Blade 2 , and thus is far more effective than his predecessor was.

Another familiar face in the line-up is Jean Rochefort [ Dartagnan's Daughter ].
