This starts in 1817, in a remote house in Maine. A man tries to murder his wife and son - like in The Shining . Well, this has certain themes and tropes associated with Stephen King because it is adapted from the short story Salem's lot . This was already recently adapted in a modern-day setting in Castle Rock: Season 2 , but now this new version is in a historical setting.
Three decades after the introduction, the grown-up Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) has been widowered and left to raise three children alone. He takes his young family to live in his childhood home. Unfortunately it is an ill-omened house, with a creepy basement that should be locked at all times.
Rebecca Morgan ( Emily Hampshire ) is an aspiring writer with nothing to write about. Unfortunately there are few opportunities for female college graduates in rural New England in the 1850s. She takes a job as the Boone childrens' governess, the classic setup for a 1800s female-led novel of the type she wants to write.
There is a mysterious illness in the town, and everyone blames the Boone family. Is this a sign of the vampirism to come?
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) pitches his expansion plan to the locals. If he builds ships, the town will become prosperous. However, their hatred for his uncle and cousin mean that they are prejudiced against him.
The children are victim to a different kind of prejudice. Even if their surname were not Boone, they would be outcasts for being halfcastes, Of course, the racism angle is unnecessary because they would still be bullied even if they could pass for white.
The drunken thug from the end of the previous episode has been declared missing by his wife. Of course, the Boones get the blame.
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) researches his recent family history. He discovers that his uncle (Julian Richings - Supernatural ) may have hidden the bodies of Stephen and Madeline, and then let his own body be washed out to sea. In other words, there are no bodies for any of them.
Boone visits the hospital his cousin Stephen stayed at. It is an asylum, set in a disused coastal fortress. The Doctor in charge explains that the Boone family has a hereditary mental illness - a morbid fear of worms. Charles himself realises he is suffering from the symptoms.
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) searches his family home, and discovers where the killer has been hiding.
Rebecca Morgan ( Emily Hampshire ) discovers why the body of Boone's uncle (Julian Richings - Supernatural ) was never discovered.
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) has Rebecca Morgan ( Emily Hampshire ) take the kids to safety in the town. He then has Able take him to Salem's Lot, a burned-out village nearby. It is where The Promised live, surrounded by a lot of inverted crosses.
Jakub (Christopher Heyderdahl - Sanctuary ), a Nosferatu, is living in the deconsecrated church. Just like Jacob in Lost , who lived in a Cabin in the Woods . Even the casting is predictable, - Heyderdahl usually plays these kinds of characters.
The Sheriff has flashbacks to his childhood, when the mysterious book was uncovered and drove people mad. Unfortunately he cannot help, because he is protecting his wife from Boone's uncle (Julian Richings - Supernatural ).
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) grieves after the events of the previous episode. However, he does not understand that someone apparently killed by a vampire may not stay dead.
Rebecca Morgan ( Emily Hampshire ) has been outed as a writer who was using the Boone family's predicament for inspiration. However, she is still allowed to help out.
The Sheriff's wife has fallen victim to Boone's uncle (Julian Richings - Supernatural ). Is he building an army? He will need one if he wants to defeat Jakub (Christopher Heyderdahl - Sanctuary ).
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) finds the book. This allows him bait to set a trap for his uncle (Julian Richings - Supernatural ).
Jakub (Christopher Heyderdahl - Sanctuary ) and his followers come looking for the book too.
Jakub (Christopher Heyderdahl - Sanctuary ) and his followers besiege the Chapelwaite house. Luckily the vamps take their time about it, which allows the humans to have lots of long whispered conversations.
Captain Charles Boone (Adrien Brody - Predators ) and the other survivors go into town to recruit reinforcements. The reverend's plot concerned the woman and child, and now they are gone he is bound to be written out. This episode is about tying up a few plot threads before the big climax in the next episode.
