The protagonist, Domino, is a young woman who has magical superpowers. Well, she is some kind of succubus who needs to suck the life-essence out of humans on a regular basis in order to live. She is careful to take only what she needs, prefering to take multiple victims each night rather than take too much and end up killing someone. Also, she only targets bad men who she finds via online dating apps.
Domino's antics and her weird aura draw the attention of a local coven of witches.
The witches invite Domino in for a chit-chat. Unfortunately the coven's leader has been lying to everyone. As an Afro-Carribean woman, she has secretly used Obeah magic to summon her ancestors. This voodoo is illegal among English witches, who are only allowed to use European magic. Worse, the Obeah ambush Domino.
Domino has been getting help from Cal, the man who runs the magic shop. However, he has to keep in line with the English Witches.
Domino discovers that her abusive boyfriend Silas is back. She sent him to the netherworld eight months ago, when she discovered how controlling and abusive he was. Now he has been exchanged for another of her dodgy sex partners.
This starts with a flashback to when they first met. He even took her to meet his mother - one of the Elders.
Domino straight-up murders someone in order to keep her secret safe. However, she does not realise that killing people actually draws even more attention. Worse, Silas knows what she did. His loyalty to her is dependent on him getting what he wants.
The witches have a strict hierarchy. The Coven-leader answers to the local Elder, Esme, who has to answer to the Council of Elders. However, the local coven-leader still plays fast and loose with the rules.
Esme the Elder gives the Coven their orders. They must hand over the Lamia ASAP. This must seem like the Elder is a dictator. However, she herself is accused of Gross Negligence by the Council. They will strip her of her position and powers, simply because she trusted the Coven leader.
Domino has had her powers bound by the Coven, while Silas has had his unbound by the Elder. It looks like things might be on the other foot.
Domino's female boss is distraught because her brother was hospitalised by an attacker who wiped his memory. She hooks up with one of the Black witch girls ... on one of the tables in the cafe. Meanwhile, heteronormative relationships - especially with men who can pass for White - are portrayed as bad.
The Elders try to restore Domino's powers. They send her to the Neverending, where her mother has been hanging out for the least few decades.
Esme the Elder has been hung out to dry. Now she sets a trap for Domino, with the coven as bait. With the scold's bridle, she can siphon Domino's power into a magical ring.
Can the demonic super-witch defeat a couple of people a lot less powerful than herself? Will there be any actual consequences for her actions?
