The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) performs a complicated assassination of a right-wing politican in Munich, Germany. This is shockingly high-profile, using a custom-made sniper rifle.
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) is MI6's top expert on firearms. Her boss Osita Halcrow (Chukwudi Iwuji - Peacemaker ) and his boss Isabel Kirby ( Lia Williams ) let her investigate further. She thinks the rifle was custom-built by Norman (Richard Dormer - Game of Thrones ), so she targets his sister-in-law Alison ( Kate Hardie ).
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) and her team of SAS men close in on Norman (Richard Dormer - Game of Thrones ). However, he has been tipped off and has laid an ambush for them.
The show was written by Ronan Bennett, a famous sympathiser for Sinn Fein/PIRA. As a result, this is his ultimate fantasy - a blue-on-blue conflict between an Ulster Loyalist and a British Government Securocrat.
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) is targeted by Alison's husband. She calls HQ for backup, and gets Vince Pyne (Nick Blood - Agents of Shield ). He is a former classmate of hers, so she makes him a recurring character.
The Jackal's wife is suspicious. She and her family break into his secret room.
The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) gets an unexpected visit from Zina Jansone ( Eleanor Matsuura ).
The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) plans his next assassination. He needs a custom-built rifle, but Norman (Richard Dormer - Game of Thrones ) is still injured after escaping the SAS.
The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) is out of the frying pan, into the fire. He has escaped MI6, but fallen into the hands of local gangsters.
The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) is in Talinn, where the target will be. He blends in by going gay-for-pay.
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) and Vince Pyne (Nick Blood - Agents of Shield ) are also in Talinn, hunting the Jackal.
The Jackal's wife steals his cash reserves so her weasel of a brother can buy a share in a local bar.
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) and Vince Pyne (Nick Blood - Agents of Shield ) are in Talinn, tracing the Jackal's process from the assassination attempt.
We get an extended flashback of the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne - The Danish Girl ) in his career before he was a freelance hitman. He originally worked for the Parachute Regiment, in the pathfinder unit ... as a hitman. He killed Taliban leaders, but became cynical when his unit inadvertently caused a massacre. Then a foreign businessman offered him good money to do the same thing.
The Jackal's wife has another problem when her weasel of a brother recognises the photofit on the TV news.
The Jackal has to clean up his brother-in-law's mess. Luckily he has an amazing next-generation sniper weapon available. In other words, he spent the previous eight episodes getting custom-made sniper rifles built when he already had the perfect weapon all along.
The good news is that the mission is now complete. However, the exfiltration - the first thing the Jackal should have planned - is a complete mess-up. Luckily he meets a couple of OAP brits on their holidays. He fails to have learned anything from his run-in with the Hungarian farmers a few episodes ago. Amateurs are unpredictable, which makes them more dangerous than professionals.
Bianca ( Lashana Lynch ) and Vince Pyne (Nick Blood - Agents of Shield ) go after the Jackal.
Timothy Winthorp (Charles Dance - Game of Thrones ) knows how unforgiving the Jackal is when he does not get paid on time. However, he decides to cheap out. After all, if both Jackal and Zina Jansone ( Eleanor Matsuura ) were dead then nobody would trace the contract to Winthorp. This is all setup for the next Season.
