This show is a behind-the-scenes look at a superhero franchise akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe . The main characters are the crew on the set of a new blockbuster movie, about a superhero named Tecto who fights a supervillain named Eye.
Tecto's superhero weapon is an invisible jackhammer. He also has a glove that can cause earthquakes.
The superhero franchise apparently has a Woman Problem. The showrunner put all the female crew and cast in a female-friendly movie, but it had to be cancelled because none of the women could work on an all-female team. Now the Tecto movie has to solve the Franchise's problem.
The character of the Lilac Ghost is the story's token female. The producer now decides to make this character a Mary Sue, completely overpowered - much to the Assistant Director's chagrin. The actress ( Katherine Waterston ) is also unhappy, since the fans will apparently aim their misplaced rage against her rather than against the true culprit - the Producers.
The Tecto movie needs a crossover cameo from another superhero. They are unlucky enough to get The Gurgler. The good news is that he is played by an old friend of Tecto's, since they worked together on a TV show years earlier. The bad news is that he starts roasting his old cow-orker. This makes Pete take a liking to him, but the star is under a lot more stress.
Eric the director (Daniel Bruhl - Captain America: Civil War ) insists on filming a tear-jerking scene set in a hospital. While he insists on doing it for his artisitic integrity, he does not have control of the final cut of the film so the Producers will inevitably delete it from their movie. Worse, they have insisted that he insert some product placement into the superhero film ... for chinese agricultural equipment.
The SPFX department has prepared a pyrotechnic display for the climax of the movie. Unfortunately, Christopher Nolan is touring the studio so Eric decides to completely rewrite the scene.
The crew are doing a location shoot in Eastern Europe, working towards a big scene - blowing up a bridge. Eric the director (Daniel Bruhl - Captain America: Civil War ) has decided to rewrite the script, because Martin Scorsese has said Superhero movies are killing cinema. Of course, Eric overworks Dave the VFX man in order to create an animated storyboard.
This episode illustrates the down sides of both CGI VFX and practical SPFX. While Dave is overworked, the local explosives expert is somewhat unreliable.
The American producer has been sent to Comic-Con, to make big announcements about the future of the Franchise. There is a rumour that one announcement is that Tecto will be dropped.
Daniel Kumar has a plan to save the movie. He wants it edited into the Kumar Cut - a lighter toned movie, away from the grim and dramatic tone favoured by Eric the director (Daniel Bruhl - Captain America: Civil War ).
