This is about four astronauts who are on the third manned mission to Mars. Their mission is to discover what happened to the first two missions.
They discover that there is intelligent life on Mars. Differently sane life, perhaps, but definitely intelligent. The Martians are English-speaking humans with their skin painted silver. They are psychic, and extremely illogical. The most important one is played by Gordon Pinsent Jnr (Fraser Snr from Due South ).
A redneck goes to a funfair carnival, and buys a jar with a strange ... thing floating in it. He takes it home and shows it to his friends, but his cheating wife mocks him ...
An American novelist is in Dublin in the 1950s. Everyone is over-the-top Oirish, begorrah!
The locals challenge the Yank to the local sport of Anthem-sprinting. The treasures at stake in the wager are some local Dublin literature items - a James Joyce First Edition and a Sean O'Casey signed playbill.
Young John Glover ( Smallville ) is marooned on Terraformed Mars. The place has been evacuated back to Earth. Then, like in The Omega Man , the phones start ringing!
The 1980s version of Mars looks like the US Midwest with corrugated iron cars. Also, it has a chubby bunny-boiler.
This is one of the episodes pulled from The Martian Chronicles (1979) , also based on a series of stories by Ray Bradbury. The moral of the story is very un-PC by modern standards.
