[ Fear The Walking Dead !The Walking Dead !Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020) !Walking Dead: Dead City (2023) !Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2023) ]
As per the main show, this has a massive time-jump. The story starts five years after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) left the main show. He has been in a civilisation known as the Civic Republic, a society similar to the one in the final Season of the main show. As a reluctant trainee he is thrown in with Pearl Thorne ( Lesley-Ann Brandt ), a fellow recruit who also has an attitude problem. Their boss has a special plan for the two of them.
The Civic Republic is one of three known cities of survivors. This one turns out to be Philadelphia, while the others are Omaha and Portland. As per the previous show Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020) , something bad happens to Omaha. Luckily the Civic Republic has its army, commanded by the Major General (Terry O'Quinn - Lost ), to protect it.
Rick has spent years trying to escape, in the hope that he can get back to Michonne ( Danai Gurira ). He even cuts off his left hand, although the Civic Republic just fits him up with the guardener's prosthetic from Versailles . A smarter idea would be to change the CRM's system, so that she would be allowed to join it.
We get the previous six years, from the perspective of Michonne ( Danai Gurira ). She met Breeda Wool , part of a travelling community. Much like the people at Terminus, they use fireworks to distract herds of zombies, but with certain upgrades. These rockets are larger, made to be fired from a portable launcher, and are powerful enough to take down a helicopter.
It turns out that someone is using an apache gunship to massacre groups of survivors. This might be the same gang who massacred a local safe haven. No wonder Michonne is in a murderous mood when she spots Rick's blackhawk chopper.
All Rick and Michonne need to do is to obey the rules and live peacefully in the Civic Republic. They could even attempt to influence the hierarchy, and bring about peaceful and meaningful long-term change. However, this would not make for exciting viewing. It seems that Michonne wants to burn it all down ... endangering the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
Jadis ( Pollyanna McIntosh ) is still around, and she knows what Rick is up to. For some reason. she claims she will not tell her superiors. However, Rick has no disincentive to silence her forever ...
Michonne ( Danai Gurira ) is finally in the Civic Republic, although she and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) have to keep their relationship secret. He tries to help her blend in, but she ignores his advice and draws attention to herself.
With Okafor gone, Thorne ( Lesley-Ann Brandt ) is promoted by the Major General (Terry O'Quinn - Lost ). She takes Rick and Michonne with her, although her trust in them starts to decline. Her mission is to prepare a remote facility for a secret conference of all the CRM's high-ranking villains. If Okafor really wanted regime change, this would be a great opportunity to kill them all and institute a military takeover.
Michonne ( Danai Gurira ) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) end up in an apartment complex that has its own power system, so they have access to electricity for the first time in a decade. They spend their time arguing over what to do next. Michonne wants to desert from the CRM. Rick eventually gets round to telling her why he stayed. Jadis ( Pollyanna McIntosh ) knows about Alexandria, and will kill everyone there if she feels betrayed. The only way that Alexandria can be safe is if they go through with Okafor's plan.
Rick may have held back on the facts, but Michonne's intransigence is breathtaking. She constantly tries to coerce Rick into doing what she wants, with no regard to the consequences for anyone else. Her plan is to make it up as she goes along, which is the complete opposite of a plan. The biggest threat to Alexandria is a hostile Civic Republic, and the greatest protection would be a friendly CRM.
Michonne ( Danai Gurira ) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) take the scenic route home, across Wyoming. They stop off for the night at Yellowstone, and do some hiking. It turns out that local zombies are calcified, like in z Nation .
Jadis ( Pollyanna McIntosh ) knows about Alexandria, and she is skilled enough to track the fugitives down. we also get some flashbacks of her and Father Gabriel ( ). She visited him one day every year, just to hang out and talk about old times. Of course, she never told him any details about all the terrible things she did.
For the whole story so far, Michonne has insisted on returning ASAP to Alexandria and forgetting about reforming the Civic Republic. Nothing Rick or Thorne could say would distract her from her obsession. Is Jadis the one who can make her see sense?
Michonne ( Danai Gurira ) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) head back to the new base. Their initial plan is for Rick to distract everyone with the tale of his miraculous return, while Michonne retrieves and destroys the file left by Jadis ( Pollyanna McIntosh ).
With Okafor gone, Thorne ( Lesley-Ann Brandt ) has given her loyalty to Major General Beale (Terry O'Quinn - Lost ). Now Beale monologues Rick, explaining all the terrible stuff the CRM has been up to. They are basically like the Commonwealth in Walking Dead (S11) .
So will Michonne finally see the big picture? She and Rick can easily wipe out the two and a half thousand CRM soldiers who are about to destroy the city of Portland. After all, they have Main Character shields so they are practically indestructible. The only thing is, if Michonne had not been so stupidly stubborn about returning directly to Alexandria ASAP, this story could have been concluded in half the time.
