This was Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of the TV show Smallville . Yes, they certainly know their way around a teenager-centric piece of Franchise fiction. Tim Burton directed half the episodes, so despite the re-casting it is certainly true to his 1990s movies.
The Addams Family send their daughter Wednesday ( Jenna Ortega ) to a new High School, Nevermore College. Well, the school is new to her but it is actually 200 years old. By American standards, that is considered quite old. Morticia Addams ( Catherine Zeta Jones ) once went to Nevermore, and it is surprising that Wednesday was not sent there earlier. However, for some strange reason Wednesday seems to detest her mother.
The headmistress Larissa Weems ( Gwendoline Christie ) is Morticia's former roommate, who may have lingering jealousy against the Addams family so it is difficult to work out if she is an ally or a villain for Wednesday. At least the token Normie teacher Marilyn Thornhill ( Christina Ricci ) is a familiar face.
There is a normal human town nearby, filled with normal human inhabitants. The sheriff is investigating a series of fatal attacks on humans, caused by some kind of bear-like animal. The supernatural nature of the Nevermore inhabitants is widely known about, with unofficial self-segregation between the Normies and the Outcasts.
