This takes the Magic Realism of Wonderfalls to an extreme length, wrapping it up in OTT trappings reminiscent of Lemony Snickett . Jim Dale's sickly-sweet narration is the icing on the cake (or pie, if you prefer).
The ep starts with a thorough introduction to the concept, starting with the protagonist's childhood. The Pie-Maker is owner/manager/chef of a restuarant, the Pie Hole. He has a superpower - he can magically revive dead people, but only for 60 seconds. This power comes in useful for solving murders ...
The pie-maker's newest corpse is his childhood friend, Lonely Tourist Charlotte 'Chuck' Charles ( Anna Friel ). He can't bring himself to return her to death when her minute is up ... but if he ever touches her again, she'll die for certain. She died under mysterious circumstances, so he brings her back permanently and she joins the crime-busting team to solve her own murder.

With his sidekicks paired off, the poor Pie-Maker is lonelier than ever as a result.

Back in the on-going subplot, Chuck's aunt has a new BF, who used to be a friend of Chuck's dad. He's got plans of his own. The mysterious stranger closes in on Chuck's secret. He doesn't care about it, he only wants Chuck's father's watch. but Chuck and the pie-maker may have to revive the only other person who knew the secret - Chuck's father himself!

The pie-maker and Blondie go to their annual contest, the Best in belly Comfort Food contest. Naturally, someone dies under mysterious circumstances. One of the other contestants is murdered, and they have to find the killer. The dynamic duo must solve the case themselves.
Kristen Chenoweth is only about half the height of the pie-maker, but she makes up for it by showing a lot of cleavage.
