The tweenage protagonist is an Artful Dodger, who picks pockets in the medieval city of Basra. However, he fixes a boxing match that goes wrong. He gets cursed to die if he is ever to set foot on land for a day and a night - courtesy of his grandmother ( Janet Suzman ). Worse, the Emir's brother (Sayeed from Lost ) declares blood vengeance on our hero.
Sinbad becomes a stowaway, but discovers that the Indian Ocean has CGI beasties. Magnificently rendered, however. One can certainly see where the budget was spent.
Sinbad's new associates include a short-haired Viking, a science type, a Chinese chef, a Nubian princess and a thief-girl.
Sinbad and his mismatched crew stray towards a remote island. They are captured by cannibalistic children ruled by a Queen ( Sophie Okonedo ). But she is not nearly as nice as Queen Liz on Doctor Who !
Sinbad's cursed collar will kill him if he spends a day and a night on dry land. But the Queen might kill him anyway, and her minions want his crew to kill each other.
The crew go to another desert island. They enter a wager with a merchant, and end up marooned. Their only chance is to wager in the magical House of Games, which looks like a modern casino with ye-olde-fashioned décor.
The ship is becalmed, and the crew are starving. They encounter another ship, which appears to have been the venue for a Wedding feast. The food is all rotten, and there is nobody on-board - except Timothy Spall ( Red Dwarf: S5 ).
The Nubian princess has a secret. She is offered the chance to trade places with her dead father. Sinbad was indirectly responsible for his own brother's death, and likewise has to make his peace with the dead.
Sayeed's witch-woman catches up with Sinbad. The witch-woman catches the crew. She sends a salt-monster after Sinbad.
A gang of red-clad Ninjas are after the Viking. They are Caucasian, but have bases in castles on islands in the Indian Ocean. Their mission is to defend the weak by hunting down Viking raiders. Anyone who waged medieval warfare on behalf of a Scandinavian King is to be captured and executed. The Ninjas also have magic powers, to make the victim relive specific memories of their crimes. None of this makes any sense, but who cares?
Sinbad gets lost swimming, and is rescued by a girl who looks like Lily Allen . He decides to stay with her, but every time he tells her a story of his past he loses that part of his memory …
The rest of the crew realise what is going on. Can they save Sinbad in time?
Back in Basra, Sayeed has his witch locate Sinbad's grandmother. They can use her as bait in a trap. But this draws attention from Sayeed's brother.
The Merry Men set sail back to Basra, where Sayeed has taken his brother's throne. The civilian population have disappeared, and the army is patrolling empty streets. Sayeed's witch empties the library, which was once a temple of evil or something. Her plan is to revive evil sprits, to make herself more powerful than ever.
The Doctor takes the thief-girl to meet his parents. Naturally, they think nobody is good enough for him. And that he has messed up and should be disowned.
Sinbad comes face to face with Sayeed at last. Has the Viking taught him some character development? The whole Season's worth of plotlines rests on this episode. And there are more episodes set to come, presumably with no story arc at all!
The crew discover a magical casket washed up on the shore. When they manage to open it, inside they discover a young woman who claims to be a goddess. A strange army of masked warriors demand the crew return her to them. This comes across a bit like an episode of Lost .
Sinbad wants to see the future, so he goes to an island where there is a magic stone. The priests who guard the stone will not let outsiders see it, so he conspires to infiltrate their secret sanctum.
The problem that nobody seems to realise with seeing the future is that one might create a self-fulfilling prophecy. Of course, this temporal anachronism is a classic form of Paradox.
Sinbad is being stalked by an Action Girl. She is a Bounty Hunter, but may become a new ally.
The ship is hired for transit by an African lady professor. She has a giant piece of luggage shaped like an egg.
Sinbad and his friends enter the city of Death. Our hero wants to rescue his brother, while the witch-woman wants to rescue Luna Lovegood ( Harry Potter ). Unfortunately, there is a Balrog on the loose. No good can come of this.
