[Season 1 !Season 2 !Season 3 !Season 4 !Season 5 ]
The first scene is almost identical to the first scene of Tru Calling . Grandma takes a wee girl to the funeral of Eddie Jones ( Lois and Clark, Invisible Man ). They can see ghosts, and the wee girl's job is to convey the deceased's final request. However, once it gets started it becomes clear the show is a lot more like Medium - though Patricia Arquette actually solves murder-mysteries!
After the credits, the wee girl has grown up to become Jennifer Juggs Hewitt. She's at her wedding, which makes this even more like Medium insofar as they're deliberately driving way male viewers. Hewitt's a Producer, she must take some of the blame. However, token black chick Aisha Tyler might lure some menfolk back.
Juggs is haunted by Wentworth Miller ( Legends of Tomorrow ). It turns out he is MIA in Nam since 1972, and his son is Balthazar Getty ( Alias S5 ). She must help the ghost pass over to the other side.
Juggs has to help the ghost of a small pre-teen boy. He is incredibly annoying, far worse than Ani in Phantom Menace !
Meanwhile, her new husband brings his mother (Christine Baranski - Addams Family Values ) to meet her. Yes, he did not even introduce them during the engagement!
Apparently, most children can see ghosts. Like in Quantum Leap . But seriously, this means that her childhood ghost-sighting was less than unusual.
The ghost is twin sister of a girl who has been put in an asylum. The ghost's moods affect her, giving her a tendency towards irrational mood swings.
Meanwhile, Juggs tries to set up her best buddy with the new fireman.
The title is a reference to the film Girl, Interrupted.
A ghost is stalking his GF. She has got trouble moving on, and wants to be with him - which is even creepier.
Juggs must find out who the ghost's heart was donated to. Luckily, although the USA has fifty States and three hundred million inhabitants, the next name on the transplant list belonged to a local man!
Juggs is hired to auction off stuff from an old orphanage. Like in the Stephen King series Kingdom Hospital it is haunted by some kids who died there in a fire.
Meanwhie, Juggs has an unwelcome house-guest, her hubby's buddy. He is a bit of a Peter Pan type - remniscent of Cool Bobby, the Friends character played by Vincent Ventresca ( I-Man ).
A teenage boy haunts Juggs. He was adopted, and wants to find out who his real mother was.
Hope ( Erica Leerhsen ) is the ghost of a woman who died at Mercy Hospital. Hence the episode title. Hope wants Juggs to discover the reason for her death.
Richard Herd ( V, Quantum Leap ) is the doctor who operated on her.
The husband's job as a paramedic is important in this ep - his ambulance crashes, which is why Juggs visits the hospital in the first place. But there are far too many coincidences in the story, and it is a bit too neatly tied up at the end.
The paramedic hubby is haunted by a dangerous ghost. He is the tattooed ex-con who died last ep, and he has unfinished business.
In the b-story we meet Juggs' ex-best buddy from college, Lexi ( Estella Warren ).

The stranger is haunted by the ghostly Johnathan Banks ( SeaQuest DSV ), who hides in the back of his pick-up truck and climbs through windows [no teleportation, eh?]. Although ghosts are not supposed to be able to touch physical objects, he also uses telekinesis in attempts to murder the stranger. However, even the orphans' ghostly dog plays fetch with a real tennis-ball, so the rules are not exactly followed too closely.
Juggs wants to get involved, even though hubby tries to talk her out of it. Should she invade peoples' privacy and risk exposing her own secret? She even compares her nosy hobby to his career as a firefighter!
The ghost of an executed man wants Juggs to give his daughter a message.
Melinda (AKA Juggs) is haunted by the first ghost she ever saw - her childhood friend. The wee girl's ghost wants her mommy and daddy to get back together, even though they divorced decades earlier. Which is typically easier than it would ever be in real life. Of course, TV shows always provide an unbelievably happy ending within 42 minutes!
Juggs confronts her mother about the enforced denial she suffered in her childhood. It turns out that Mommy Dearest had a selfish reason for being unsupportive. Nice to see that this somewhat mundane mainstream show for once avoids all that sentimental family is everything propaganda!
Andrea ( Aisha Tyler ), the sexy black babe, is victim to some poltergeist activity. Serves her right for sleeping alone!
Juggs tries to talk to the ghost, but he keeps disappearing. Turns out he is actually in a coma, and only becomes a ghost when he flatlines. Unfortunately, the doctor thinks the patient is brain-dead but still refuses to DNR him!

An African-American man died in the 1970s, in a brawl with an Irish-American co-worker. The dead man's son has raised his own son to hate and fear caucasian people.
The Ghost wants Juggs to help right some wrongs. He wants the facts of his death to be made clear, and for the politician who covered it up to come clean.
Juggs gets a head injury. She seems to have lost her power (or is it a curse?) to see dead people ...
